·         Genealogy 101- An Introduction to Genealogical Research: Learn how to start your family history research by interviewing family members; looking for family resources; and using the internet to find online records such as censuses and vital records. This workshop is great for beginners as well as intermediate researchers who may want a refresher.

·         Genealogy 102- Next Steps: - Learn how to use those records you found in Genealogy 101to lead you to new discoveries for your family history. Every record has information you may have never thought to dig into deeper. That marriage record may lead you to more family; that census record may give you the wife’s family; that city directory may lead you to a death date for a husband. This workshop is perfect for beginners to learn to build , and for intermediate researchers to refresh, their family tree research while documenting their findings.  

·         Breaking Down Your Brick Walls: We all have them, but how do we solve them?  You will earn how to reassess your research, formulate a plan, find the resources and hopefully take down the wall.

·         Getting Around the Missing 1890 Federal Census: Fire destroyed the 1890 Federal Census (for the most part), and that can leave a large gap in your research. This workshop will teach you methods to recreate the missing census data using directories, state censuses, vital records, and more.

·         Keeping It Affordable: Genealogy can get expensive, but it does not always have to be that way. Learn to use free websites, libraries and Facebook pages to help you keep the costs of genealogy manageable.

·         Too Good To Be True: We have all seen those hints on our family trees, but are you really sure they are correct? Others may have our family on their tree, but is all their information right? Learn how to avoid the pitfalls in records and online trees by scrutinizing information you find.

·         Where Can I Find That?: We all can get stumped as to where we can find a record we need. Only a transcript is not a dead end to the actual record; not finding a record on your online tree website does not mean it does not exist. Learn where to look for those records you want and need, both online and offline.

·         Immigration, Passenger Lists and Naturalization: Each type of record brings you different information since they are not all the same.  Learn how legislation effected what information you will find on a record and how that information may help you find your family’s hometowns and family.  The workshop will also teach how to find and use these records to add to your family story.

·         Using Libraries in Your Research: Libraries offer a wealth of resources to help you with your research, ranging from online access to records to local history rooms to free workshops. Learn where to find local resources as well as distant libraries and their online resources and offerings.

·         Irish Genealogy: Irish genealogy can appear a bit confusing. This workshop will help you strengthen your research through using naming patterns and finding homelands in US records. Then “jump across the pond” to Ireland to learn why so many older censuses and other records may or may not exist anymore; discover why your Irish Catholic family may be found in the Church of Ireland records instead of the Catholic Church records; resources such as Griffiths Primary Valuation and Tithe Applotment Books. Finally, learn about websites dedicated to your Irish research.

·         Jewish Genealogy: There are many aspects to Jewish Genealogy research that you need to know to help you build out your family history. The trick is to know where to look to find those records. You will learn about using US records to help find what country your family left to come to the US. You will learn about the different online resources that may have the records you want, as well as offline resources.

·         Tracing Your Female Ancestors: Finding your female ancestors can be hard since marriage would change their last name to their husbands’. All is not lost though! Learn to use available resources such as vital records and censuses to help find maiden names. You will also look at other resources such as newspapers and social organizations to find those elusive women who helped form our families.

·         How to Use Censuses in Your Genealogy Research: Each census gives us new clues about our families. Learn about the different information you can find on the federal and state censuses and how that can help you with your research.  

·         Using Newspapers in Your Genealogy Search for Records: Newspapers give us stories and insight into our ancestors’ lives. After all, family history research is not just names and dates, it is lives lived. Newspapers are a great way to learn about their lives. This workshop will teach you where to  find those newspapers and the types of history you may uncover.

·         Italian Genealogy: Not a lot of Italian genealogical resources are available online, but that does not mean you can’t find what you need. You will learn where to look for records in the US to help find hometowns in Italy; what types of records are available from Italy; where to find Italian records; how to get those records translated into English; Italian naming patterns; and more.

·         Finding Your Ancestors in Military Records: Even if your family ancestors did not serve in the military, they may have had to register. And if they did serve, there are even more records available to you. This workshop will teach you what types of records exist to help you find military service or registration records. Once you know that an ancestor served, you will learn where to find those records. Records were kept back as far as the Revolutionary War, so odds are you will find something. Not everything is online, but a lot is available to you with the touch of a button. If it is not online, you will learn how to get those records from the National Archives.
