A free Chrome extension that links to your FamilySearch.org account. It allows you to “clean up” the tree by finding duplicate names, sources, and dates; to correct non-standardized place names with standardized ones; add married surnames to the Alternative Name section for married people; and many other fixes to standardize and clean up inputted people on the one big tree. Best part (if you ask me!) is that for many suggested fixes, you can just click on the Fix It button and the work is done for you!

Many of us have had ancestors who started out in the New York City area. This free site from the New York City Municipal Archives has many (but not all) birth, marriage, and death certificates. The search function does not allow for any wildcard or “fuzzy” searches; you must know exactly how the transcriber inputted the information. This issue can lead you to not find a record you are looking for. That is why the German Genealogy Group page is so important (see below).

https://germangenealogygroup.com/
Although this is German Genealogy Society, they do have over 23 millions database records for all nationalities available to everyone. Most of the indexes are for the New York City area, but there are some Long Island and Connecticut records. This website always for wildcard and “fuzzy” searches, so it the place to start to find the certificate numbers. If they are for birth, marriage, or death certificates, you can then use those numbers to go to the New York City Municipal Archives page and look up the certificate by the number rather than by the persons’ names.
